Inaction is your greatest risk
Why risk-aversion is about the fear of change and not risk itself
People who have high risk-aversion (the tendency to avoid risk and have a low risk tolerance) are not in fear of risk itself but are in fear of change.
“Why don’t you take risks, bet on yourself for once and put yourself out there?”
The reason why they struggle with doing this is because the fear and anxiety of failure in relation to their own autonomy and accountability leads them to heavily lean on caution and self-doubt when making decisions…
But risk-averse people adopt a faulty, limited mindset.
They are blind-sighted by the fact that:
Risk can be an illusion.
How come?
They only have risk-aversion towards committed action which will cause change in their lives yet they are not risk-averse towards inaction even when they treat inaction as a safety net for complacency and comfort…
This makes no sense when inaction is a greater form of risk!
This illustrates it’s a fear of change, for change takes us out of our comfort zone into a place of uncertainty.
Inaction will lead to regret, self-deprecation and resentment which for an individuals well-being is much more damaging to one’s self-esteem and self-image in the long-term, especially when you are not showing up for oneself whilst falling under the weight of fear and uncertainty.
We need to realise that INACTION is the greater risk! Not action-itself! Only the fear within you is telling you that action is the greater risk, yet it is your duty to overcome it and prove yourself.
The comfort zone you call “security” will eventually become a place of death for your potential and dreams which will then lead to the harbouring of regret and resentment down the road.
The regret of not taking a leap of faith upon a good opportunity for yourself out of fear is a much greater risk then the self-perceived risk of avoiding it and not committing to action at all.
That is the most brutal risk you could ever take: inaction.
Is risk-aversion keeping you behind?
