The reason why divorce rates are so high more then ever in history is because people don’t believe in God.
For many people out there it is near impossible to integrate the love of God (agapē) into their marriage mutually if they do not believe in God and walk in His message to begin with.
God created sexual love (eros) to be expressed in marriage between husbands and wives. But, if this is the only form of love present within the marriage and is missing other essential forms of love it will likely lead to divorce. This is fundamentally the sad situation most people are in today and the reason for exponential divorce.
Agapē is known as the sacrificial, unconditional love of God.
In the New Testament, agapē is the highest form of love. But outside of the New Testament, the word was rarely ever used. Prior to New Testament times, agapē did not carry any special significance as a higher kind of love. Thus, it’s the New Testament understanding of the unique nature of God’s love—not the word’s usage in the Greek-speaking world of the first century—that gives the word agapē its special meaning.
Jesus commanded His followers:
“A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”
(John 13:34-35, KJV).
The word Jesus used for love is the verb form of agapē. The pattern of our love is “as I have loved you.” In other words, we are to be known by our self-giving, sacrificial, unconditional love for one another.
So when it comes to the holy Christian marriage of divine matrimony, agapē love must be present and must be the essential binding ingredient to make it an everlasting marriage till death do us part. For this is the highest and essential form of love necessary for all marriages, it is a love that is never-ending and always mutually selfless with the power of God to overcome any confrontation or disagreement with grace and forgiveness.
With this beautiful message of the the Holy Bible it teaches us the fundamentals to maintaining an eternal marriage of love with our partner: by always walking first with Christ and embodying the love of Christ towards our partner, family and closest of friends.
